According to the British "Guardian", the Associated Press reported 10 days ago that six Romanian men were found hiding in the landing gear compartment of a Boeing 747 aircraft which was flying from Austria to London. The flight reached an altitude of 7,600 meters with temperatures at -41 degrees Celsius, yet they survived miraculously. According to reports, the aircraft was a private jet belonging to the Dubai royal family.
Due to thunderstorms, the plane flew at a lower altitude, which reportedly saved one of the stowaways, a 20-year-old Romanian man. On the evening of June 6th, he climbed under barbed wire fences at Vienna airport and made his way into the landing gear compartment of the Boeing 747. The flight took off at 7 pm and landed at Heathrow Airport after 1 hour and 37 minutes. Upon arrival, the stowaway fell out of the landing gear compartment and was promptly arrested by police.
The man survived the extreme conditions at an altitude of 7,600 meters and -41 degrees Celsius, which is considered a miracle. Police said: "Under normal circumstances, the plane would have flown at an altitude of over 11,000 meters, but due to thunderstorms, it flew lower. This was also a short flight, so this man was spared."
After a medical examination, it was discovered that the man only had a minor scratch. He was able to clearly answer questions from the police and immigration officials. He stated that he had smuggled himself aboard because he needed to come to England to find work. Subsequently, he was released. Since he came from a European Union country and his identity was confirmed as valid, he was allowed to remain in the UK.
However, the incident did not end there. Eight days later, Romanian embassy officials told the media that London police were trying to locate the stowaway again. It was reported that the plane he hid in belonged to a tribal elder from the United Arab Emirates and was docked near a new terminal building at the airport. There were no passengers on board for the flight from Vienna to London that night.
According to the Associated Press statement, the man was able to slip into the secure areas of Vienna airport without being detected, exposing a security loophole. Vienna airport spokesman Paul Kellermann said that an investigation into the incident was ongoing. He remarked: "This is the first time we have encountered such a case. The man said he just wanted to go to other places to find a job."
The newspaper report mentioned the "big three" dangers at high altitudes:
- Low Temperature: At -40 degrees Celsius.
- Hypoxia: Oxygen content in the air is reduced by 70% compared to sea level.
- Low Pressure: Atmospheric pressure decreases rapidly, causing human blood oxygen to separate quickly, easily forming bubbles that can block blood vessels.
