At a press conference held in Hanzhong: A taxi driver at Hanzhong obeyed the law and stopped at the first intersection. When signaled by a traffic policeman, the driver stepped on the gas and fled. At the second intersection, a female traffic cop was run over and the car drove over her before fleeing. Yesterday, the taxi driver was placed under criminal detention.

A Taxi Driver Runs Over a Female Traffic Cop

At around 12 p.m. on December 12th, Niu Jie, a police officer from the First Detachment of the Second Brigade of the Hanzhong Municipal Public Security Bureau's Traffic Police Detachment, was on duty on Tianhan Avenue when he noticed a taxi with the license plate number "Shaan F61236" illegally parked and loading passengers at the Er'guai Crossroads while heading north. Niu Jie immediately signaled for the vehicle to pull over and receive inspection. However, instead of stopping, the driver stepped on the gas and drove towards the Bell Tower Crossroads. Seeing the taxi flee, Niu Jie used his walkie-talkie to call for interception and inspection at the Bell Tower Crossroads checkpoint.

When the taxi reached the southern entrance of the Bell Tower Crossroads, it encountered a red light. Yang Fang, a traffic cop on duty there, signaled for the vehicle to pull over and accept inspection. Niu Jie, who had just arrived, requested the driver to show relevant documents. However, the taxi engine remained running, and the driver refused to present any documents.

Subsequently, an unexpected scene unfolded: the taxi driver suddenly stepped on the gas, colliding with Yang Fang and throwing her onto the hood of the car for over ten meters before forcibly driving over her as she fell to the ground and then fleeing.

The Surveillance Camera Recorded the Process of Being Run Over

According to the surveillance footage from the Bell Tower Crossroads, the incident can be clearly seen: At 12:00:22 p.m. that day, a green taxi with a traffic cop on its hood rapidly moved forward to the right, at least rushing for more than ten meters, with two traffic cops chasing after the car.

At 12:00:24 p.m., the traffic cop (Yang Fang) slid off the hood, being run over by the taxi. The taxi body showed obvious vibrations during the process of running over, but the vehicle merely slightly decelerated, followed by a slight turn, and quickly drove away towards the north, escaping the scene.

"The taxi suddenly started, and I didn't even have time to react." On the morning of the next day, Yang Fang was lying in the orthopedic ward of the Hanzhong Central Hospital receiving intravenous fluids. This 21-year-old girl smiled shyly. She said that after signaling the car to pull over, her colleague Niu Jie came to inspect the driver's documents. She never thought that the taxi would flee. When she heard the sound of the taxi accelerating and looked back, she saw the car sharply turning towards her. "I instinctively tried to dodge, but there was no time."

After the incident, Yang Fang was sent to the hospital by the 120 emergency ambulance. After diagnosis, she suffered from multiple soft tissue contusions in her ankles, legs, waist, and other parts of her body.

"We all need to learn from you"

After the case occurred, the Hanzhong Road Police Station of the Hantai Branch of the Hanzhong Municipal Public Security Bureau immediately launched an investigation. Based on the relevant information about the taxi, at around 1 p.m. that day, Wang Jigang, the 34-year-old taxi driver, was controlled by the police.

"I saw the traffic cop standing in front of the car, and at that moment, I thought that once the car started, the traffic cop would move aside," Wang Jigang confessed in the police station. He also admitted feeling that he had "run over something."

Investigating Officer Zhang Kun said that Wang Jigang is suspected of obstructing official duties and has been criminally detained.

In the afternoon of the same day, Vice Director of the Provincial Department of Public Security, Zhang Heng, and Director of the Provincial Traffic Police Corps, Yu Weidong, who were inspecting work in Hanzhong, visited Yang Fang in the hospital. Zhang Heng said to Yang Fang: "You are very dedicated and brave, we all need to learn from you."
