Currently, the Xialong vehicles produced are mainly for police and military use. According to what the reporter learned from yesterday's delivery ceremony, the civilian version of the Xialong prototype has been developed, making it no longer far from car enthusiasts. However, purchasing a Xialong requires considerable economic strength, with an estimated price of over one million yuan per vehicle, consuming about 20 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers.
Wuhan Xialong Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. independently researched and manufactured four Xialong-branded patrol vehicles with complete independent intellectual property rights, which were delivered to a certain unit of Hubei Armed Police for use. This is the first time that the Xialong-branded off-road vehicle, known as China's "Hummer," has entered service in the Armed Police force.
The Xialong vehicles are approximately 5 meters long, more than 2 meters wide, and about 2 meters high. On the left, right, front, and top of the body, there is a camera installed on each side, transmitting real-time images around the vehicle to the display inside. There are four seats in the cabin. Each vehicle is worth one million yuan, weighs 3.8 tons, and is equipped with a diesel engine and automatic transmission, with a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
Technical personnel introduced that the Xialong off-road vehicle has a minimum ground clearance of 0.44 meters, can climb a steep slope of 45 degrees, can cross a trench 0.75 meters wide, can go up steps 0.55 meters high, and can inflate/deflate the tires while driving to adapt to various complex road conditions. It is suitable for fields such as petroleum, water conservancy, geological surveying, forestry, wild data collection, telecommunications, disaster relief, and anti-terrorism maintenance, with off-road performance comparable to Mercedes-Benz's Unimog and surpassing the US Army's "Humvee."
It is understood that the Xialong off-road vehicles have already been put into use by companies such as Sinopec and PetroChina.
The civilian version of the Xialong can be customized according to user needs. Even with standard configuration, there are many advanced features: the vehicle is equipped with night vision, allowing driving without lights at night; due to the high position of the exhaust pipe, it can pass through water areas up to 1.2 meters deep; a winch is installed at the front, enabling self-rescue when stuck in mud pits; each tire has an automatic inflation/deflation system, allowing inflation/deflation while running, and even if the tire is punctured, it can still run about 50 kilometers.
Currently, the military version of the Xialong is favored by the army. Relevant technical personnel introduced that the Xialong vehicles have different models with a load capacity of 1-5 tons (total weight of 5-12 tons), providing chassis support for various light and heavy weapons, command, communication, rescue, troop transportation, and logistics support vehicles for the army, offering great convenience for battlefield support and daily maintenance. Currently, the Xialong has been selected as a dedicated vehicle for related weapon systems.
In the special vehicle industry, the Xialong truck also has a broad market. It can be modified and designed according to the needs of target customers, becoming a preferred model for disaster relief, oil extraction, mining, and forest fire prevention.
It is understood that Wuhan Xialong Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. was established in 2006, being a private joint-stock company located in Changfu New City, Caidian District. Currently, the company has transitioned from the R&D and production preparation phase to the production phase, forming an annual production and sales capacity of 1,000-3,000 off-road vehicles, chassis, and key components or component assemblies. After the completion of the fixed asset investment in the second phase project, it will form an annual production and sales capacity of 10,000-30,000 off-road vehicles, with an expected annual sales revenue of 8 billion yuan at that time.
US Military Humvee Overview
The name "HMMWV" may still be unfamiliar to people, but "Hummer" is very well-known. In fact, "Hummer" is just the colloquial name, while "HMMWV" is its official designation. In the U.S. military, the "HMMWV" high-mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle is omnipresent, available at all times, and used by all soldiers. From the Gulf War to the Iraq War, the "HMMWV" has always been the "wheels of fury" for the rapid advance of the U.S. military. Due to its excellent performance, the "Hummer" has been hailed by insiders and outsiders alike as the "King of Off-Road Vehicles."
World-Class Off-Road Vehicle
The Unimog is a model in the family of Mercedes-Benz light-duty trucks. Its reputation comes from its multi-purpose capabilities, high load capacity, and reliability, earning it the title of "Desert Cruiser." The vehicle went into production in 1946, and now several series of 4x4 and 6x6 models have been developed, with the maximum power increasing from the original 80 horsepower to the current 280 horsepower. The small-tonnage load models have evolved from 1.5 tons, 3 tons, and 5 tons to a maximum of 7 tons, with a total weight reaching 7.5-16 tons. Its operating temperature ranges from -45°C to +50°C. The new model has improved the flexibility of the chassis longitudinal beams and increased the movement space of the suspension system, showcasing excellent off-road performance.
