When the wife found out that her husband was frequently staying with Ms. Jiang at a bed and breakfast in Yilan, she gave a recorder to her daughter, instructing her to place it under her husband's pillow to gather evidence. Ultimately, she recorded the sounds of the two having sex and some of their conversations. Based on this, the wife filed a complaint of disrupting the family to the court. During the trial, the judge examined the tape and confirmed that it captured the sounds of the two having sex. Even in the recording, Mr. Ni reminded his girlfriend to be careful during sex. Although Mr. Ni denied during the court proceedings that the voice on the recorder was his, Ms. Jiang admitted that the voice was hers, though she was uncertain about the moans of pleasure during sex. However, Mr. Ni’s children testified that their father often slept in the same room with Ms. Jiang. Therefore, the judge sentenced both of them to four months in prison on charges of disrupting the family, which could be commuted to a fine. Mr. Ni’s mother expressed disagreement with the judge's verdict, stating that her daughter-in-law had left home many years ago, and her son and daughter-in-law were currently divorced, with no desire to have any further contact. Whether or not to appeal the decision would be left to her son's discretion.
