Recently, I've been thinking about where to go for a trip. Today, I found this guide for a self-guided tour of Macau on Baidu and decided to share it here for reference.
【I've been to Macau many times for self-guided tours. Macau is not very large and is very suitable for self-guided tours. You can see everything in half a day or so. Here's my suggested plan (you won't have to spend any money on food, drinks, or transportation!):
Macau has many casinos that offer free shuttle buses which are both fast and comfortable. Therefore, you should try to use these buses to get to your various destinations, saving both money and time, haha.
After passing through the customs checkpoint, walk forward to the road (with many shops) and turn right towards the parking lot. After crossing the only small pedestrian bridge, you will see numerous casino shuttle buses.
Let’s start with the shuttle bus to the Grand Lisboa Casino. It’s only a 10-minute ride. Once there, visit both the old and new Grand Lisboa Casinos and try your luck. Hopefully, you'll win some money for meals. Afterwards, head towards Rua Nova (also known as "Fountain" and "Largo do Senado"), which is just a 10-minute walk away. This pedestrian street is also famous as the Handover Street. Along the street, you’ll find the Civic Affairs Bureau, Rose Church, and the cosmetics chain store "Sasa" (girls will definitely love shopping here), as well as countless other shops. As you walk up the gentle slope along the street, you'll encounter many pastry shops and dried meat stores. Even if you don't buy anything, you can sample their products, and you can try a lot of them (a great deal~)! Eat freely without paying. When you're done eating, you'll reach the iconic landmark of Macau, the Ruins of St. Paul's. Next to the Ruins of St. Paul's, there's a museum and a fort, all of which are free to enter.
After visiting the Ruins of St. Paul's, continue your culinary journey. If you’re still hungry, you can have lunch at the famous Wong Chi Kei Porridge Shop. Alternatively, nearby is the Fuk Long New Street, just a 5-minute walk away, where you can enjoy a variety of delicious foods.
Then, walk a few minutes back to the Grand Lisboa Casino and take the shuttle bus to the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal. It's only a few hundred meters away, so it takes just a few minutes to get there. Near the Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal, there's a Wine Museum (where you can buy hundreds of different types of wine, don’t miss it if you like Western wines), and the Fisherman's Wharf, a beautiful attraction that combines several themed parks from ancient to modern times, East to West, offering diverse landscapes, all of which are free. There are also many friendly clowns around. Additionally, across the street, there's the Lotus Square, symbolizing Macau's return to China.
There's also the Sands Casino, another high-end casino operated by the same company as the Venetian. So, the next stop is taking its shuttle bus to the Venetian (on Taipa Island). Inside the Venetian, visit the casino and the indoor Grand Canal shopping area. Don't miss out on shopping opportunities. The casino offers free coffee, milk tea, tea water, and bottled water (ha ha, such a great deal...). The ceiling of the Grand Canal is painted blue with white clouds, and Venetian-style boats float by with singers onboard, creating a harmonious atmosphere. Don't miss the hourly performances either – all of which are completely free!
Then, walk to the Dragon Ring Portuguese Charm (House of Macanese Culture), which is only a 5-minute walk away. After visiting, head to Guan Ye Street (another famous handover street), which is about a 5-minute walk away. Try some authentic local snacks. Freshly baked pork chop buns aren't available all the time; they're only sold after 3 PM, so the timing works perfectly!
To visit A-Ma Temple and Black Sand Beach, which don't have casinos, take the bus. Since Macau isn't very large, you can reach anywhere within half an hour. Take bus No. 11 to A-Ma Temple, and bus Nos. 25 or 26A, whose final stop is Black Sand Beach. Just ask someone for directions. These two places might seem boring to some people since not many tourists visit them. If you don't want to go, you can simply play a few games at the Venetian, then take the free shuttle bus to the border gate, and pass through to return to Zhuhai (the last bus departs at 11:30 PM).
Regarding economical accommodation: Hotels in Macau are quite expensive, with rooms at the Venetian starting at least 1500 yuan. Therefore, many travelers who prioritize comfort and affordability choose to stay in Zhuhai. I recommend booking the Weijia Self-service Apartment in Gongbei, which is warmly decorated and fully equipped with modern appliances and furniture. The kitchen has pots, pans, knives, chopsticks, and seasonings, making it easy to cook seafood yourself, providing a home-like comfort and convenience. The price is only over 100 yuan per night, offering better value than budget hotels or guesthouses. Hotel rooms are usually smaller, and you'd still need to go outside to eat. The Weijia Apartment is also close to the Macau border checkpoint, just one bus stop away; I always walk there, which takes about 10 minutes. You can search for photos and make reservations on Taobao.
I hope you have a wonderful and enjoyable trip!】
