The world-famous Shaolin Temple intends to build a Shaolin Monastery in Hong Kong to promote Shaolin culture. Currently, the monastery is applying to the SAR government for construction land. The design concept of the new temple will be similar to that of the Shaolin Temple on Mount Song. It is expected that after the start of construction, it can be completed within 4 years, involving about HK $420 million. The abbot of the Shaolin Temple, Shi Yongxin, and the monk Shi Yanchang held a press conference in Hong Kong on the 20th to introduce the relevant situation. Shi Yongxin said that Shaolin culture has been popular overseas for many years, and Hong Kong is a place where Chinese and Western cultures converge. There is an intention to build a Shaolin Monastery in Hong Kong to promote Shaolin culture.

Shi Yanchang said that the Shaolin Monastery in Hong Kong would be divided into six construction projects according to the layout of the Shaolin Temple on Mount Song, including the Hong Kong Shaolin Temple, Chan Martial Arts Academy, Chan Meditation Center, Shaolin Temple Pagoda Courtyard, Shaolin Temple Stele Forest, and Shaolin Amusement Park. It is estimated that the entire project will cover an area of 50,000 square meters. He said that for two years, the monastery has been in correspondence with the SAR government. At the end of last year, the Shaolin Temple submitted a report to the relevant departments of the SAR government, and is now negotiating with the SAR government on the location of the Shaolin Temple, hoping to choose a quiet suburban area.

A spokesperson for the Home Affairs Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government said that they are studying in detail the plan of the Shaolin Temple's application for land to build a temple in Hong Kong, and have requested additional information on certain details.

It is understood that the Shaolin Temple has already established an institution in Hong Kong to teach related courses.
