Microsoft Windows Phone mobile operating system

Beijing, September 1 -- Morning News, Erythropoietin, a Windows Phone user in Seattle, Washington, United States has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft for the Windows Phone 7 phone operating system's camera software which ignored user requests and forced tracking and collection of user locations.

The plaintiff stated that when the user opens the Windows Phone adaptable camera software, data including latitude and longitude coordinates will be quietly sent to Microsoft. The plaintiff requested Microsoft to ban this practice and receive compensation.

The complaint mentioned that Microsoft had sent a letter to Congress arguing that the company only obtained aggregate user area information according to the accord. However, this statement is not aboveboard.

A Microsoft spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

Earlier this year, Apple iPhone’s secret collection and storage of user geographical information was exposed, causing an uproar. Apple then upgraded the iOS operating system to solve this problem.

However, this incident led to greater attention to location information and its link with privacy. In May, the U.S. assembly said many technology companies accessed location data for marketing purposes without users' consent, generating billions of dollars in revenue. (Yan Fei)
