A Must-Read for Young People: Ha's Teaching - Career and Life Planning
Ladies and gentlemen, teachers:
Good morning!
I am delighted to be here, in this place full of wisdom and inspiration, to discuss a practical topic with all of you. I remember speaking at Cambridge University about "life planning and career paths for college students," and the students reacted quite strongly. Today, let's continue discussing this very topic.
First, let us explore how we can sketch out our life blueprints. What are your aspirations for life? How high are your expectations for yourself? We must prioritize our goals based on their importance, carefully consider them, and make decisive decisions to form our life blueprints.
If you grew up in less-than-ideal circumstances, your academic aspirations unfulfilled, and faced setbacks early in your career, you might resolve to succeed. That determination is crucial – I must learn how to succeed. Some believe mastering a skill leads to success, but in reality, technical skills are only a small part – albeit an important one. Success is 90% self-training and self-image, and 10% work skills.
1. Set Clear Goals
If your self-training is insufficient, no matter how smart you are, it won't help. Even the best opportunities will not belong to you if you lack proper demeanor. If your self-image is one of defeat, even the best training cannot lead you to success.
If you can focus on both aspects, success will eventually come. You will find everything flowing smoothly, all problems resolving naturally, and experiences that change your life. Holding this attitude opens the first door to your success.
Set clear goals and determine your direction. If you're ready to succeed, you'll reach your goals. You'll plan how to achieve them, acquire necessary skills, and develop all required abilities.
Most of us plan for trips but rarely take the time to plan for our long lives. We often scramble at the last minute or try to fix things after they've gone wrong, never preparing ahead. It’s only when we lose our jobs that we panic and react.
From now on, write down your life plans every month. Review these plans as needed to keep the vision of success vivid. At least once a year, revise your plans to match your growth and changing interests.
Start writing now! It's always hardest at the beginning, so start with the easiest goals. Write down what position or status you hope to have in five years, then refine and add details daily.
2. Continuously Revise and Review Your Life Plan
Never stop revising and reviewing your life plan. Especially after retirement, continue updating regularly. If you're not doing what you love, include some time in your plan to do something enjoyable.
Having a life plan makes living more purposeful and gives you a greater sense of responsibility. It also helps you better cherish every moment of your life. Achieving goals isn’t difficult; the challenge lies in setting realistic goals that remain relevant and alive in your life.
Many people fail to grow further after their first success because they get too busy to improve and enhance their skills.
Clearly define your initial goals; add detailed descriptions in the next steps. Once all goals are set, review them every morning and visualize them.
Uninspiring goals will never be achieved. In other words, uninspiring goals aren't worth pursuing. Always adjust your goals to align with your latest motivations.
There are many goals you can achieve, some partially, and others may conflict with other goals and thus remain unattainable. If so, don't hesitate to abandon those unhelpful goals.
Challenging goals stimulate your abilities and maintain your enthusiasm. When your motivation starts to waver, re-examine and improve your set goals. Uninspiring goals are worse than worthless ones.
Define your goals, continuously revise them, trust in their realization – and results will follow. Anyone can achieve what they desire. You are no exception. But first, you must know what this great achievement is; next, design smaller goals that keep you motivated and guide you gradually toward success.
3. Plan Each Day Step by Step
Each day's choices, actions, and prioritization will greatly benefit you. Ensure your efforts are not wasted and strive for efficiency. Consciously and carefully decide the order of tasks, which most people don't do. They act arbitrarily, going with the flow. Their actions are often driven by fear or anger rather than a desire to live better. Instead of improving efficiency, they get caught up in personal vendettas or political victories that ultimately fade into nothingness.
Understanding your needs and how to obtain what you want, recognizing the importance of these tasks, allows you to plan your day step by step.
Practically, plan each evening for the next day; in fact, you can revise your plan anytime. You'll know which task to do first.
As a seeker of success, you understand that life...
