Roydell Williams may miss the action and then some, as he shattered his foot during Wednesday's practice. Williams has been the Titans' leading receiver, as he has amassed 55 catches for 719 yards and five touchdowns. They are definitely sacrificing speed at the wide receiver position this week, after placing tight end Bo Scaife on the Injured list last evening, and earlier losing Brandon Jones to the injury report.
"This is the challenge," Titans Coach Tim Fisher explained. "There are a number of individuals from last year's roster who are now unavailable, but you just deal with it." Damage to Williams requires two plate designs and screws to fix. The team states it's likely he'll need about six weeks to recover. Who will the Titans turn to for reeling in the passes Friday? Justin Gage steps up as the #1 option, as he is tied with Williams for second place with 55 receptions. Eric Parker with 34 catches will be called upon, as well as Tom Hartsock (12 catches) and Tom Troupe (6 catches).
Look for the team to adjust, regroup, and perform better by Wednesday. The team averages just 179.8 yards per game on the ground (27th in the league), and overall their offense is ranked 21st, averaging 311.5 yards per contest. The loss of Williams will only hurt an already struggling offense.
