A fraud gang has been arrested for defrauding more than 40 million yuan.
In this world, if something falls out of the sky, it's not a pie but generally a trap! This big scam led to more than 200 people falling into the trap. In just one month, the scam gang had fraudulently acquired over 40 million yuan.
Currently, suspects Dong Ming, Ai Mou, and Yang Yingying have been prosecuted by the Luwan District People’s Procuratorate for fraud, and a sentencing date has been selected.
The scheme involved sending mobile phones along with prepaid cards for purchase.
In May this year, resident Xu received a strange call. The caller claimed to be working with China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom on a mobile buzz activity. For the anniversary, they were offering invoices for charges, and any product quality issues could be resolved by contacting customer service. Xu decided to buy a 1500 yuan prepaid card.
The next day, the delivery company’s salesperson quickly sent a card and mobile phone, asking Xu to pay 1500 yuan after inspection. After analyzing the package, Xu found the phone unsatisfactory.
Xu immediately called the sales number but got no response. Upon trying to find the sender using the shipping address, Xu not only failed to find the address but also reported the matter to the authorities.
Based on Xu’s provided phone number, the Luwan Public Security Bureau identified Dong Ming and Ai Mou as major suspects in a series of city-wide cases. They also discovered that Liu Mou, Wang Mou, and 200 other victims were involved, with losses exceeding 40 million yuan. Following the incident, Ai Mou was arrested.
Consumers should avoid bargain traps.
Upon review, it was found that to carry out the fraud, Dong Ming and others first fabricated Simai Te Technology Co., Ltd. Then, they purchased a large number of phone cards from the internet at a lower price of 48 yuan each. These calling cards could not be used and were continuously distributed by the gang.
Someone was responsible for shipping, while another ensured everything went smoothly.
Prosecutors stated that the profit margin for prepaid calling cards is about 2-4%. For those who fall for bargain prepaid card scams, consumers should remain vigilant.
