(1) Jar Breeding
It can be used as a place for breeding breeding centipedes and raising small and medium-sized centipedes. The nest soil should not contain brick debris, weeds, grass leaves, melon shells, fruit peels, grass roots, and other debris. Its humidity should be such that when squeezed by hand, it forms a ball that scatters upon landing (water content 15%～17%). In midsummer and early autumn, it can be slightly wetter. The soil for raising baby centipedes and medium-sized centipedes can also be wetter. The particles of the nest soil should not be too large. Each board can hold 15 nest bottles. Nest boards can prevent predation by natural enemies and allow the stacking of nest bottles layer by layer, fully utilizing space. The bottles should be washed thoroughly with concentrated alkali water, then rinsed with clear water until they are transparent and odorless, dried, and filled with 2～3 cm thick damp soil as the nest soil. Using canned bottles as centipede nests is relatively ideal. Each nest bottle can breed one breeding centipede, or 20-80 baby centipedes, or 2-6 medium-sized centipedes. This way, not only is the density reasonable, but it also solves the problem of mutual killing.
(2) Greenhouse Breeding
Build two layers of walls around the breeding room, 10 cm away from the wall, filling the gap between the walls tightly with sawdust or dry fine soil. The ceiling should be made into a double layer and filled solidly, forming an insulating layer. The door of the greenhouse should not be too large, just enough for one person to pass through. The edges of the door and the door frame should be lined with velvet cloth, and burlap or cotton wadding should be nailed outside the door to help maintain warmth. Coal briquette stoves, electric stoves, wood shavings stoves, and firewood stoves can all be used for heating, sincerely. Generally, a coal briquette stove is sufficient for a breeding room with dimensions of 3 meters x 3 meters x 2.25 meters.
Factors affecting centipede activity: Centipedes generally come out at night, with their peak activity occurring between 8 pm and 11 pm. Their characteristics include more nighttime activity and less daytime activity; more activity when the temperature exceeds 25℃ and less when it's between 10℃ and 15℃; more activity on rainy nights and less during rainy evenings; more activity on windless or slightly windy nights and less on windy nights (wind force above six). Therefore, the frequency of centipede activity is closely related to meteorological factors such as temperature, air pressure, relative humidity, rainfall, and light intensity.
Centipede Feed Sources
To do well in farming, the first thing to solve is the feed issue. Centipede feed is mainly meat-based. It must be fresh and clean. Pork lungs, pork hearts, chicken intestines, small fish, frogs, snakes, earthworms, various insects, and meats are all suitable. Depending on local conditions, arrange reasonably. Choose the one that is cheaper, easier to obtain, and relatively stable in supply as the main food. Use those with relatively higher costs as supplementary food. This way, the cost is low, and the feed is nutritionally rich.
Treatment for Centipede Bites
When ordinary people are bitten by centipedes, they will experience swelling, pain, redness, and itching. The pain is intermittent, with multiple needle-like pricks per second, which is quite severe but within the tolerable range.
Immediately after being bitten, squeeze out the venomous blood and wash with alkaline water. Without treatment, the pain will completely disappear within six to eight hours. During this time, you can apply some flower water or menthol oil to relieve symptoms. If the pain is unbearable, you can go to the hospital for a local anesthetic injection.
One point needs to be particularly emphasized. The toxicity of centipedes is similar to bee venom. Friends with a history of bee venom allergy should not breed centipedes. Although only one in ten thousand, it is a terrifying event for people with allergic constitutions to be bitten by centipedes. The amount of centipede venom is very large, equivalent to the result of being stung simultaneously by N bees. If symptoms such as dizziness, fainting, full-body rashes, chills, etc., occur after being bitten, timely desensitization treatment at the hospital is necessary.
