Chaozhou Police Solve Kidnapping Extortion Case; One Suspect Arrested
CHAOZHOU — A six-year-old boy went missing recently in the Chaozhou urban area, and soon after, a mysterious phone call demanded a ransom of 600,000 yuan, claiming to have kidnapped the child! On December 10, the Chaozhou police cracked this kidnapping extortion case. One suspect was arrested, but tragically, the boy was smothered to death shortly after being abducted and his body was dumped.
Pursuing the Suspect to Hubei
At 4 p.m. on December 6, a woman rushed to the Xima police station of the Xiangqiao Public Security Bureau in Chaozhou to report that her six-year-old son had disappeared!
The complainant, Ms. Wang, is from Henan Province and temporarily resides in Chaozhou. Around 2 p.m. on the day of the report, her son Yangyang (a pseudonym) went missing at the entrance of the Jinn Long Market on Xirong Road in the Chaozhou urban area. After receiving the report, the local police immediately launched an investigation, and the Chaozhou Public Security Bureau coordinated various police forces to participate in the search, promptly informing the nearby Shantou and Jieyang police departments. However, as the family and police were urgently searching, at around 9 a.m. the next morning, one of Yangyang's father's fellow townspeople received a call from an unknown man — the caller claimed to have kidnapped little Yangyang and demanded a ransom of 600,000 yuan!
The Chaozhou police immediately formed a special task force to conduct an investigation. Through their inquiries, they identified Sun Moumou from Henan Province as a major suspect, who was fleeing on a long-distance bus to another location. With the assistance of the Xiangfan police in Hubei Province, the task force captured Sun Moumou at the Huangji Toll Station of the Xiangfan Expressway at around 5 a.m. on December 8.
Immediate Execution After Kidnapping
Upon interrogation, Sun Moumou confessed to the police that due to financial difficulties, he had conceived the idea of kidnapping for ransom. At around 2:30 p.m. on December 6, Sun Moumou saw Yangyang playing at the entrance of the Jinn Long Market and lured him into his rented apartment in Caicuo Village, Chunchuang, Chengxi Street, Chaozhou. He then suffocated Yangyang by covering his mouth, causing him to die from asphyxiation.
At around 2 a.m. the next day, Sun Moumou dumped Yangyang's body under the Jing Mountain Water Gate Bridge at the intersection of Yinghan Lvlong Road and Xirong Road in the northern part of Chaozhou City. After completing these actions, he called one of the deceased’s father’s fellow townspeople in the morning, claiming to have kidnapped Yangyang and demanding a ransom of 600,000 yuan.
Based on the identification provided by the suspect Sun Moumou, the investigating officers retrieved Yangyang's body on the afternoon of December 10. The police are currently intensifying their investigation into the case.
