It is understood that more than 10 years ago, Mr. Zhang, a resident of Changqing Group in Shawan Village, Shawan Town, Zunyi County, was passionate about hunting and privately purchased a gunpowder gun. Later, as the public security authorities strictly investigated illegal possession of firearms, Mr. Zhang hid this gun in a secluded place at home. Since then, he hadn't used it.
Privately, Mr. Zhang had boasted to acquaintances about hiding the gunpowder gun, but his friends didn't take it seriously and did not report it to the public security department.
At around 11 PM on September 4, Mr. Zhang's good friend, Mr. Ge, a villager from Shawan Village, came to Mr. Zhang's house and asked to borrow the gun. Mr. Ge said that his crops were often damaged by wild boars, and he planned to use the gun to shoot these animals. Seeing that it was a friend asking, Mr. Zhang took out the gun without hesitation, which had been "sealed away" for over 10 years. Since this gun had not been maintained for a long time, it was severely rusted and unusable. After discussing with Mr. Ge, they decided to disassemble the gun barrel and remove the rust through heating.
Mr. Zhang never expected that when he hid the gun 10 years ago, it already contained gunpowder and iron sand. He placed the gun in the furnace for heating while Mr. Ge sat opposite watching. During the heating process, there was a loud bang, and Mr. Ge fell down.
Mr. Zhang was shocked and quickly notified his family to send Mr. Ge to a hospital in Zunyi for emergency treatment, but Mr. Ge died due to severe injuries.
Currently, Mr. Zhang has been criminally detained by the police in Zunyi County for privately storing firearms and causing the death of others due to negligence.
