Times report: Around 17:20 the day before yesterday, in the Yingchun East Garden community of Binjiang District, a woman's cry for help broke the tranquility: "Help! Save my father-in-law!"
The woman who cried for help is named Chen Lian (a pseudonym), 32 years old, from Hubei Province. She married into Hangzhou in April last year. The incident involved her father-in-law, named Lu Changsheng (a pseudonym), 64 years old.
It turned out that after an argument with her father-in-law, Chen Lian threw a beer bottle in anger, not realizing it would stab into his calf, causing him to bleed profusely and ultimately resulting in his death.
Argument between daughter-in-law and father-in-law, she threw a beer bottle
At 10:15 yesterday, I arrived at the entrance of Yingchun East Garden community and coincidentally met the Lu family who were handling funeral arrangements. Mr. Lu’s wife, Ms. Hu, told the reporter that at the time of the incident, their younger son, Lu Guo (a pseudonym), was out on business, leaving only Mr. Lu and his younger daughter-in-law at home.
"Xiao Lian (Chen Lian) told me that around 5:30 PM the previous day, the old man had drunk too much and was nagging at home. Then they started arguing. The younger daughter-in-law threw a beer bottle, and the glass shards splashed and happened to stab into the old man's left calf," Ms. Hu said. "Xiao Lian, seeing the trouble she caused, quickly ran down from the 6th floor and asked the neighbors to help call the police."
Ms. Hu told the reporter that at the time of the incident, she was having dinner at her elder son's house. Suddenly, the doorbell rang, and she heard Xiao Lian panting as she rushed in saying, "Mom, hurry up, quick call the doctor."
Upon returning to her younger daughter-in-law's home, Ms. Hu saw her husband lying in a pool of blood on the balcony, motionless. After the incident, Mr. Lu was sent to the Armed Police Hospital. Due to excessive blood loss, he could not be saved and passed away.
Mr. Lu had a bad temper when drunk
Ms. Hu said that she usually lived with her elder son, while Mr. Lu stayed on the attic floor of their younger son's home.
"The old man died in the attic, and there was blood all over the balcony." Ms. Hu said, "I immediately guessed that the old man must have argued with his daughter-in-law again."
Ms. Hu told the reporter that Mr. Lu loved drinking very much, consuming alcohol seven or eight times a day. After drinking, he liked to nag, which led to an unharmonious relationship between him and his daughter-in-law, often resulting in conflicts.
"His pension was all spent on drinking, and when it wasn't enough, he would borrow money from the neighbors. After drinking, his temper worsened, and he used to argue with me frequently. Now that I live with our elder son, we see each other less often, so I stopped arguing with him. But unexpectedly, he started arguing with our younger daughter-in-law," Ms. Hu said.
Everyone says it's not her fault
Lu Guo told the reporter that Chen Lian is usually kind-hearted and respectful to the elderly.
"After drinking, my dad would nag a lot. Moreover, Xiao Lian is pregnant, and pregnant women are prone to mood swings, so they often argued," Lu Guo said, "But Xiao Lian is very filial to both elders, she wouldn't intentionally kill anyone."
A neighbor, Ms. Yang, also expressed disbelief that Chen Lian intentionally killed her father-in-law.
"She is a good person. Every time we went to her house, she would immediately serve tea. Xiao Lian respects us elders a lot," Ms. Yang said, "Besides, she is about to become a mother, five months pregnant. How can a pregnant woman possibly want to kill someone?"
Ms. Hu also said that Chen Lian is usually very filial and treats her well. After this incident occurred, no one in the family blames her; they just hope she can come back soon.
According to information from the police, on the night of the incident, the police took Chen Lian back to the police station, and the specific circumstances are still under investigation.
