According to reports, last September, the provincial environmental protection bureau issued a document requiring the Chang'an Town government to close the landfill by March this year. However, South Metropolitan Daily reporters found that there are still vehicles transporting garbage to the landfill. The Chang'an Town government said that the heavy rainfall from May to August this year slowed down the progress, but the landfill can be completely closed by the end of this month.
Listed company claims employee turnover rate at 100%
The employee turnover rate reached 100%, a rare occurrence even during the most severe period of the financial tsunami. And under the current situation where the economy has generally recovered, ZHUOYI Technology Co., Ltd., a listed company in Shenzhen, encountered such a desperate situation.
Wu Hen, who has been troubled by recruitment issues for more than half a year, looked extremely haggard. He is the manager of the administration department of ZHUOYI. He said that the turnover of ZHUOYI's employees has little to do with welfare benefits or company operations; the main reason is the unbearable stench from the garbage mountain next to the company. Wu Hen said: "Our branch is newly built, with relatively better salary levels, employee dormitories, and entertainment facilities in the area. A survey by the human resources department showed that more than 90% of people left because they could not endure the smell."
The straight-line distance between ZHUOYI Company and the landfill is less than 400 meters. Standing on the roof of the company dormitory building, the South Metropolitan Daily reporter could clearly see the pile of garbage over ten meters high on the hillside opposite, and garbage trucks constantly coming from afar to unload garbage there. By 7 pm that evening, as the temperature dropped, the stench became even stronger, almost reaching the point of making one vomit.
Towels cannot last for more than half a month due to air corrosiveness
Not only ZHUOYI, but many enterprises in the Tongfu Industrial Zone also expressed that they were deeply affected. Closer to the garbage mountain is the Shenzhen Jiaheng Investment Co., Ltd., which has 1500 employees. Cai Hong, the minister of the management department of the company, said: "From 2007 to now, at least 500 employees have resigned due to the unbearable stench. Most of our employees are male, so they have a bit more tolerance." In contrast, in ZHUOYI Company, more than half of the employees are female.
The first to bear the brunt is Jiangjun Plastic Company. This company is located at the foot of the mountain where the Honghuakeng garbage landfill is situated. The person in charge of the company said: "It is definitely smelly, but more seriously, the air around here is corrosive. Our towels, if used here, will rot within half a month; some stainless steel items, which would be fine for years elsewhere, will definitely rust here within half a year." The company has fewer employees, only about 40 people, "but every month, four or five people leave."
