Beijing Morning Post (reporter Yan Fei) - A 22-year-old unemployed man from Chongqing, surnamed Zou, unable to repay his debts and feeling too ashamed to face his parents, traveled from his hometown to Beijing to commit robbery. He chased the victim all the way to a police station, hoping to escape reality by going to prison. This incident was previously reported by our newspaper. On the morning of yesterday, Zou was sentenced to two years in prison for robbery by the Chaoyang Court and fined 4,000 yuan.
In the early hours of September 25th last year, Zou held a knife and robbed Zhang, who happened to be passing by on Xiaoguan East Street in Chaoyang District. Seeing this, Zhang ran to the nearby Xiaoguan Police Station of the Chaoyang Public Security Bureau. Zou followed him into the police station, shouting loudly about the robbery while still holding the knife, and was caught on the spot.
It is understood that Zou had used funds obtained through credit card overdrafts to trade stocks and futures, resulting in losses of around tens of thousands of yuan. His parents helped him pay off these debts, but Zou did not learn from his mistakes and continued with futures trading, causing another loss of over 30,000 yuan. Unable to repay his debts and too ashamed to face his parents, he conceived the idea of committing robbery so as to be imprisoned and thereby escape reality. Zou stated that he chose to commit the crime near the police station because it would avoid causing serious consequences for the victim and also allow him to be quickly apprehended by the authorities.
