Business News (Reported by Wang Wenhui, Intern Liu Yang) - At a demolition site organized by the government, a village woman standing among the crowd shouted a few words. She said that the next morning, she was called to the Village Committee Office and was beaten, resulting in her losing her hearing. However, the Village Committee claimed that they did not call her to the office nor did they beat her.
At around 10 a.m. on November 5th, the Mazhai Town Government of Erqi District sent personnel to Ma Mantun's home in Mazhai Village to demolish the wall he had built in his own yard.
A migrant worker surnamed Guo said that there were about a hundred people present, and one woman shouted why villagers were not allowed to build houses. "Many people were saying that this kind of demolition was wrong, and that woman shouted the loudest."
The woman mentioned by the migrant worker is named Cui Chunling, 41 years old, who lives in Mazhai Village.
Yesterday, the reporter saw her at the ENT corridor on the first floor of the inpatient department at Hospital 153. The nursing card by her bed read "traumatic deafness."
Cui Chunling said that because she "disliked" the government tearing down the wall Ma had built, she spoke up more than others in the crowd. The next morning at around 10 a.m., the village chief called her to the Village Committee Office for a discussion. "After I arrived at the committee office, the village chief directly took me to the third-floor secretary's office, while my husband was taken to another room. Eleven men beat me."
Yesterday, Deputy Secretary Ma from the Mazhai Village Committee said that the reason for demolishing Ma Mantun's wall was that he did not have the proper procedures, making it an illegal construction.
When asked about the incident where Cui Chunling was beaten at the Village Committee Office, Deputy Secretary Ma said: "This I cannot talk about, because we were told not to. If you want to ask about this matter, you need to go to the Town Government Office."
Director Jing from the Mazhai Town Government Office stated that he was unaware of Cui Chunling being beaten. On the day of the demolition, she was riding a tricycle and planned to leave but was blocked by a bulldozer in the passage. "I told her to wait a bit, and she could leave after the demolition was finished. During the process, she was emotionally agitated and shouting loudly, saying some irrelevant things, causing other villagers to start talking." Regarding what happened after the demolition, Director Jing said he was unaware.
Yesterday afternoon, the reporter contacted Cui Chunling's husband, Ma Zhijun. He said that the Village Committee had already started negotiating compensation matters with him.
