Beekeepers find clusters of bees dead while holding pollen balls
Chutian Metropolis Daily News (reporter Peng Zhou) Yesterday, in Yong'an Street, Caidian, a strange event occurred. Beekeepers from 8 bee farms have continuously for two days discovered clusters of bees dead while still holding pollen balls.
At Mr. Li's bee farm in Loufang Village on Yong'an Street, the reporter saw dense groups of dead bees scattered around the rows of beehives. According to Mr. Li, his family has 200 beehives. The day before, at noon, he noticed some bees had died. Upon closer inspection, he found that the dead bees were still holding pollen balls, which they had just collected. "The pollen may be toxic!"
Subsequently, he contacted the other 7 bee farms, and they also experienced similar situations. Later, he learned that about 2 kilometers away from his home was a large farm that had recently sprayed pesticides, possibly related to this incident. By noon yesterday, the number of bees affected in the 8 bee farms was still being counted.
Yesterday, the affected beekeepers went to the farm. A staff member of the farm introduced that pesticide was indeed sprayed on the vegetable fields a few days ago. Previously, some beekeepers had already discussed with the company's responsible person. In the future, when pesticides are sprayed on the vegetable fields, they will communicate in advance with the beekeepers to avoid such incidents from happening again.
