Jining, October 24th - A 50-year-old woman was severely injured in a traffic accident and remains in a coma after surgery. Outside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the hit-and-run driver has been waiting for seven days and nights, taking care of the victim and covering her medical expenses. On October 24th, Mr. Meng, the driver involved in the accident, stated, "People should act with a conscience. I hope to find the family of the injured person as soon as possible to deal with post-accident matters."

On the morning of October 24th, at the ICU of Jining Second People's Hospital, medical staff were taking care of a female patient lying on the bed. The patient was unconscious, around 50 years old, over 1.6 meters tall, and relatively slim. At the end of the bed hung an IV drip list and a CT film bag. The doctor did not know the patient's name, so they wrote "John Doe" in the name column for convenience.

This critically ill patient was related to a traffic accident. On the 16th, Mr. Meng from Jining was driving along the Ji-Yu Highway back from Yutai to Jining. Around 11:30 PM, when passing by the pesticide factory gate in Yutun Town, Zhongqu District, he met an oncoming vehicle. "By the time I realized the road conditions ahead, I saw a woman walking in the middle of the road. I sharply turned right, but it was too close, and my right rearview mirror still knocked her down," Mr. Meng told reporters that after the accident, he first adjusted his vehicle to protect the victim, "I turned on the emergency lights to prevent other vehicles from causing secondary harm to the victim."

Subsequently, Mr. Meng called 120 (emergency services) and 122 (traffic police). The victim was sent to Jining Second People's Hospital by the ambulance that arrived.

The hospital opened a green channel to treat the victim and performed surgery on her at around 2 AM on the 17th. "When the victim was brought in, her pupils had already dilated, and she was in imminent danger of losing her life," said Dr. Gao Shutao, the attending physician of neurosurgery at Jining Second People's Hospital. After more than three hours of surgery, the victim was successfully pulled back from the brink of death. Currently, the victim is still in a coma.

Driver Mr. Meng followed the ambulance to the hospital, initially paying 15,000 yuan for medical expenses, and waited outside the ICU. He took care of the victim every day during visiting hours. Mr. Meng said that since the victim had no identification or communication devices on her, the family of the victim has not been found since the incident.

The traffic police department confirmed Mr. Meng's statement and indicated that they would issue a responsibility determination letter after the victim was discharged and regained the ability to act.

Mr. Meng told reporters that at the time of the accident, the woman was wearing a red top and checkered pants. If anyone knows any information, please call our hotline number 96706 to help find the family of the victim as soon as possible.
