Witnesses Seek to Pay Tribute to the 'Bus Heroine'
By reporter Hongying Li
He saw a thief on the bus and only dared to give a discreet warning. However, a 20-something fashionable woman on the same bus shouted fearlessly that there was a thief, alerting all the passengers. Yesterday, Mr. Zhang vividly recounted the stunning scene he personally witnessed. He wants to find this "bus heroine" to convey the admiration of all the passengers for her bravery.
At around 6 p.m. on the afternoon of December 12th, Mr. Zhang boarded the No. 520 bus heading from Taipingyang towards Guoci Kou. When the bus reached the water plant stop, an 1.8-meter-tall man stealthily opened a female passenger's handbag zipper. After noticing this, the female passenger muttered a few words, prompting the man to curse and walk away. Soon after, the man extended his hand toward another girl's bag. Mr. Zhang quietly nudged the girl, who immediately understood and switched the direction of her bag. Seeing that the passengers were now on guard, the man squeezed towards the middle of the bus. At this point, a fashionably dressed young woman standing near the front door by the window suddenly shouted: "There's a pickpocket on the bus, please everyone be careful!" Enraged, the thief began to curse loudly and was about to hit the girl. Mr. Zhang then took out his mobile phone to call the police, and the other passengers demanded that the driver take the bus directly to the police station.
Upon seeing this, the man rushed to the front door, trying to pry it open in an attempt to escape. At this moment, the young woman turned around and grabbed his clothes, saying: "Don't let him run away!" Several male passengers also came to help and chased him off the bus, but the man still managed to break free with great effort.
Mr. Zhang told the reporter: "I am a teacher, and I usually consider myself to have a strong sense of justice, but at the critical moment, I did not have the courage to stand up and accuse the thief. But a young woman from the post-80s generation did it. I deeply admire her!"
