A man and a woman were drowned dead after they jumped into the dam one after another to save a drowning pet dog. The dog was saved, but the couple didn't make it. At about 8 o'clock last night, a drowning incident occurred at Niu Zui Reservoir around Baitou Long Village in Longhua District of Shenzhen's Bao'an District. A couple died from drowning while saving their little dog.

Niu Zui Reservoir is located near the Second Re-education Center of Shenzhen in Longhua District of Bao'an District. It was hard to tell which part was land and which part was water because of the overgrown weeds on the edge of the reservoir. A man was lying face up among the weeds. Not far away from him was his girlfriend who also drowned. At half past eight yesterday evening when I arrived at the scene, the drowning man and woman had been fished out of the water already. The man wore a blue short-sleeve T-shirt and gray riding pants; the woman wore a skirt.

According to an employee of Shenzhen's Second Re-education Center, "Suddenly two women came running for help, saying that their friend fell into the reservoir and hasn't come up for more than ten minutes." After receiving the news, more than a dozen people rushed to the reservoir and searched along the area pointed by the two women. Three people took off their clothes and explored underwater. But due to inappropriate rescue tools, they failed in the end. Then they called the police. Around 8 o'clock in the evening, rescuers from the fire station arrived at the scene. Until 8:30 pm, the two were successively salvaged by the firefighters but they had no breath left.

Their friends who accompanied them said that yesterday evening at 6 o'clock, four women and one man were walking around the reservoir with three white pet dogs. Because they were in the wild, the couple's little dog happily ran and played around and accidentally fell into the water. In a panic, the woman jumped into the water to save the dog. Seeing his girlfriend jump into the water, the man also jumped into the water. They pushed the puppy onto the shore, but the two struggled and disappeared under the water. Since there were only a few girls on the bank who couldn't swim, they ran to the nearby Shenzhen's Second Re-education Center for help.

It was learned that the couple lived in Baitou Long Village next to Niu Zui Reservoir. The man was 23 years old and the woman was 19 years old. An employee of Shenzhen's Second Re-education Center who went underwater to search told reporters that the water in the reservoir was very deep, approximately five meters, and the edges were overgrown with weeds and mud, "It's easy to get stuck." Nearby residents said that although this place was far from the main road, many people still came here for a walk, especially in the morning and evening.

At midnight last night, it was learned from Minzhi Police Station that the drowned boy surnamed Fu, was from Guangxi, and usually sold electronic products online; the girl surnamed Li, was from Hunan, unemployed.

The drowned quietly lay in the grass on the river bank.

The man's body lay by the side of the reservoir after the couple drowned while saving the dog.
