Nanchang News - "Stop at red lights, go at green lights." This traffic slogan known even by elementary school students is often not followed by many adults. Today, our newspaper will collaborate with the City Road Traffic Management Committee to expose pedestrian violations in hopes that citizens start from small actions and improve their awareness of civilized travel.

Since May 1st, the total number of penalties for pedestrian violations in our city has exceeded 1,000 times. The Legal Affairs Department of the Municipal Traffic Police Bureau stated that pedestrians violating traffic signals will be fined 10 yuan; crossing roads or intersections without using pedestrian crossings or facilities will also result in a 10-yuan fine; climbing over road isolation facilities will result in a 20-yuan fine; leaning on road isolation facilities will similarly incur a 20-yuan fine. Currently, the traffic police department requires all pedestrians who refuse to obey instructions to attend a traffic safety education class and sign an assurance letter.

To clarify the standards for determining pedestrian violations, the Order Division of the Municipal Traffic Police Bureau indicated that any pedestrian who fails to cross the road during a red light will also be considered as having violated the rules. It's understood that the signal light conversion cycle generally lasts between 45-90 seconds, which is sufficient time for pedestrians to cross orderly.

Bad traffic habits can spread mutually

Civilization and uncivilized behavior sometimes differ only by a second or a step. Yesterday evening at the Xijiang intersection, more than ten citizens were waiting patiently for the red light. A woman, seeing everyone waiting, stepped forward to cross but retreated. However, this scene lasted only 20 seconds before a man crossed the street without looking up, causing unrest among the crowd waiting for the red light. First, three men ignored the traffic warden's whistle and followed him across the street, then others couldn't resist and began crossing too, leading to traffic congestion.

This was a very memorable scene for me, showing both civil and uncivil moments. I believe that whether it's civil or uncivil behavior, it can be contagious. When people see someone crossing the red light without penalty or consequences, they relax their own self-discipline and begin to cross too. Actually, the behavior of these individuals who cross the red light is closely related to the first person who does so. At the next intersection, if they have to wait for the red light again, these violators may become the "first violator" and "infect" others.

We should indeed start from ourselves and abide by traffic rules because our behavior influences those around us.

More waiting zones at crossroads to improve passage rates

Mr. Li: At many crossroads, the stop lines for three directions are on one line. I think we can design high-traffic intersections like the one where Hongdu Avenue and Nanjing Road intersect, with left-turn waiting zones marked by dashed lines moving the left turn ahead to the center of the road, thus increasing passage efficiency.
