A man traveled some 20,000 kilometers (12,238 miles) across 30 states (within the United States) and, using GPS coordinates, wrote what is estimated to be the world's largest text on Google Earth: "Read Ayn Rand."

A guy named Nick Newcomen traveled from the Pacific to the Atlantic in 30 days and wrote his favorite author's name on the American mainland.

The specific practice is to use GPS+Google Earth to record their journey, and then deliberately walk a few letters on the road out.
