In this tutorial, we will talk about how to make an abstract light background in Photoshop using brushes and the warp tool. Preview of the final effect:
1. Create a new file, set the width to 1000px and height to 500px, fill the background with black.
2. Create a new layer and rename it "Abstract Glow". Select the Brush Tool, choose a soft round brush with a radius of 300px. Increase the brush radius to 650px and set the foreground color to white. Draw white highlights in the lower left and upper right corners of the canvas.
3. On the same layer, reduce the brush size and draw several horizontal straight lines. You can use different sizes of brushes for each line. To ensure that each line is straight, you can hold down the Shift key while drawing.
4. Select "Edit - Transform - Warp", move the control points to the positions shown in the figure below:
5. Right-click on the "Abstract Glow" layer and add the layer styles "Gradient Overlay" and "Outer Glow". Set the parameters as follows, the panel on the left is for "Gradient Overlay" and the one on the right is for "Outer Glow":
6. Using the above method, let's create another vertical dreamy light effect as shown in the figure below:
7. You can create larger dreamy light effects and try different opacity values.
8. Now, we have obtained a beautiful light background. I believe this technique will be helpful for your future projects.
9. Continue, create a new layer and name it "Background Lights". Choose a large-radius soft brush and paint some big color bands around the brush using deep green or red.
10. Download the soccer ball material and place the material image between the "Abstract Glow" and "Background Lights" layers, set the blending mode to "Overlay". Download the soccer player and soccer ball material images. Use the Pen Tool to separate the soccer player from the background and place it above the "Abstract Glow" layer. Of course, you can also use other methods to remove the background. For more information, please refer to http://10steps.sg/photoshop/types-of-extraction-in-photoshop/
11. Create a new file, set the width and height to 1px and 2px respectively. Create a new layer and delete the original background layer. Use the Pencil Tool to draw a black pixel point. Select the entire canvas, then select "Edit - Define Pattern". We have now created a brush pattern, which will be used later.
12. In the "Paint Bucket Tool" bar, select the brush pattern we just created and click on the canvas to fill the mask with the pattern.
13. Select the "Smudge Tool" and gently smudge along the edges of the soccer player’s body to create a motion blur effect as shown in the figure below:
14. Right-click on the layer where the athlete is located and add a layer style. Select "Gradient Overlay", for detailed parameter settings, please refer to the image in the lower left corner. Then add the "Outer Glow" effect, for detailed parameter settings, please refer to the image in the lower right corner.
15. Use the aforementioned method to create two more soccer players.
16. Finally, add text to complete the design. I hope you like this tutorial.
