The amount of the DRAM industry price boom, fully reflected in Taiwan’s DRAM plant in March revenue report card. Following PSC's announcement of a 24% increase in revenue from the previous month, Formosa Plastics Group, Nanya, and Inotera have announced that March revenues increased by 27% and 23% from the previous month, benefiting from the personal computer (PC) replacement boom, making continued strong DRAM demand. Even if Season 2 is not off-season, higher contract prices are expected to be sustainable in April. DRAM factory revenue for April are also viewed optimistically.

Microsoft Office 2010 commercial version is expected to debut on May 12, heating up the PC replacement boom, fully reflecting the demand for DRAM. Since the Lunar New Year, DRAM prices have binge risen, both spot prices and contract prices have increased, driving the Taiwan DRAM factory crystal, Nanya and Inotera's March report card to have very successful sales.

Nanya's statement in March showed revenue of NT$5.257 billion, which grew by 27% compared to February, with a growth rate over the same period in 2009 as high as 137%. The total revenue for the first quarter was NT$14.12 billion, showing a 129% increase compared to the same period in 2009. Nanya said, benefiting from strong demand in the DRAM market and relatively tight supply, it drove the March contract prices of DRAM chips to grow, making March sales continue to rise.

Nanya spokesman Baipei Lin said that near the end of March, before the PC was originally worried that unions might lead to some inventory openings issues, but it does not seem to have happened. PC demand is still strong, and there is optimism that contract prices will continue to rise in April. The overall Q2 traditional off-season atmosphere does not seem present, thus the outlook for the DRAM market will be more optimistic.

Currently, Nanya's 12-inch wafer fab cast film is close to fully loaded at 30,000 levels based on the 68 nanometer process. The investment amount for the 50-nanometer chip manufacturing process is increasing each month, while it is expected that the 50-nanometer process will become mainstream in Q3. Meanwhile, the South Asia Section also plans to expand its 12-inch fab to the 50,000 level, adding 250 employees, bringing the future number of employees to 4,250 people. It is estimated that the 2010 capital expenditures will be between NT$20 billion to NT$25 billion.

Inotera's revenue in March was NT$4.14 billion, showing an increase of 23% compared to February and a growth of 129% over the same period in 2009. The total revenue for the first quarter was NT$11.518 billion. Inotera began heavily investing in the 50 nanometer process chip in April, expecting to convert at least 10,000 monthly rates, with the expectation that by the end of the year, the 12-inch wafer fab can produce 130,000, fully switching to the 50 nanometer process.

PSC has announced that March revenue was NT$6.846 billion, a one-time dash from NT$5.517 billion from the previous month, showing a 24% increase and reaching nearly a three-year record high level. The main benefit is the continued rise in DDR2 and DDR3 spot prices contributing significantly.

Overall, the market view for April is rather optimistic, maintaining the spot price level of three U.S. dollars, with contract prices continuing to rise in April, giving April sales the opportunity to continuously rise.
