Congratulations, noble Paladin of Bravo, you have reached level 10. It is here that the somewhat tricky questions regarding talents begin. The first involves choosing between the Retribution and Holy talent trees. I believe it’s important to consider that WoW, whether on a PvP or PvE server, remains a game centered around instances. The orientation of a Paladin for PvE seems more sensible than a Paladin for PvP. Therefore, talents aimed at being useful in instances (a Paladin is always useful) are beneficial. Additionally, these talents will help when farming solo to increase your experience.
You should know:
- Seal of Piety: More damage with fast weapons, so 1H weapons.
- Seal of Authority: More damage with slow weapons, so 2H weapons.
Based on this principle, it's up to you to decide whether to improve Seal of Piety (10 points in the Holy tree) or learn Seal of Authority (11 points in the Retribution tree).
Seal of Authority - Here you must decide if Improved Blessing of Power or simply Blessing is better. This only applies at lower levels, not too risky.
- Improved Blessing of Power: Helps melee classes but NOT hunters.
- Blessing: Will help reduce the mana cost of your Judgments and Seals.
Afterward, Devotion will be more useful at lower levels than Improved Judgment or Improved Seal of Righteousness.
Useful Talents:
Holy Tree:
- Spiritual Focus: Prevents interruption during healing spell casts.
- Holy Light: Increases healing spells.
Protection Tree:
- Guardian's Favor: You appreciate your bubble ^^ Casters appreciate blessings of protection.
- Classes that are close-range can appreciate the very useful Blessing of Freedom, especially in narrow passages.
- Resistance: Allows you to reduce the damage inflicted on you, resulting in less loss of health points. You can focus more on your allies than yourself (the Paladin is not an egotist).
Retribution Tree:
- Devotion: Increases your chance to parry by 5%.
What should I improve if I want to be...
A Healer:
The Holy tree will be your ally. Illumination and Divine Favor will be the minimum required to heal correctly. Improved Blessing of Wisdom will help keep your mana constant (other classes will appreciate this as well).
An Assistant:
Using a shield is not necessarily recommended for talents in the Protection tree:
- Guardian's Favor: Explained a bit above.
- Redoubt and Shield Specialization: These two talents will give you a significant reduction in the damage inflicted on you. Additionally, blocking enemy attacks will help prevent interruptions during healing spells. You can also support the Main Tank.
A Striker:
A slow weapon and the Retribution tree are recommended.
- Seal of Authority: Explained a bit above.
- Conviction: Increases your chance to land critical strikes.
- Aura of Sanctity: Since holy damage cannot be absorbed by enemies, increasing it will directly affect your opponent's health loss.
- Vengeance: Similar to Aura of Sanctity.
- Retribution in the Protection tree: Official forum
The Role of the Paladin in a Group:
If you make your Paladin into a:
Healer:
Keep your distance from the MT, stay close to the Priest or Druid helping the group's survival. Your auras have a long range, so being close serves no purpose. Try to also stay within the group near the MT if you choose to enhance your Devotion Aura.
Assistant:
You are positioned between the MT and the healer(s). A difficult spot to manage since you must either handle the aggro of healers or the survival of the MT; sometimes even both. The Blessing of Protection is your main advantage!
Striker:
Stay close to your warrior friend, who should understand their role. Follow them and compete with them in terms of damage output.
