In accordance with the principle of liking new things and abandoning old ones, combined with my consistently poor writing skills, I have never been very interested in writing travelogues. Therefore, I have also lacked the motivation to seriously write a travelogue about Tibet. Fortunately, these past few days Coffee Rabbit said his travelogue was ready, so I might as well repost his travelogue to my space. But I still want to make it clear: this is just a repost, for example, like two men going to a brothel together, due to differences in age and physical strength, their feelings and impressions will definitely be different. So some of Coffee Rabbit's travel experiences do not represent my own feelings.
A Journey of Eight Thousand Miles Over Mountains and Waters
September 12th, Saturday, Sunny
Day 0: Lishui → Nanchang
After nearly a month of planning, our self-driving trip to Tibet finally set off. I (Coffee Rabbit) drove a 2.4-liter Jeep Compass to Nanchang to pick up Brother Long and Bluesea. Teacher Li, Old Tiao, and Tiaobo, a couple, drove a 1.5-liter Fit. Six people in two cars were prepared to enter Tibet via the Sichuan-Tibet route and exit via the Qinghai-Tibet route. We carried the following important equipment: a GPS navigator, walkie-talkes, an altimeter, a tow rope, one oil filter, one air filter, a laptop, a wireless internet card, car cushions (essential), high-energy food, Tian Shan Hong Jing, Gao Yuan, glucose, and other medicines to prevent altitude sickness (must include aspirin, which relieves headaches and dilates blood vessels), as well as sufficient cash. Additionally, the Jeep had one spare tire, while the Fit had two spare tires.
Some people recommended two types of anti-altitude sickness drugs, which are said to have good effects. One is Compound Ginseng Tablets, which should be taken starting two days before entering the plateau, eight tablets per day, reducing the incidence of altitude sickness by 80%. This drug is widely used in the military but is generally unavailable in pharmacies on the plains. The other is a Western medicine called Acetazolamide, which is essentially a mild diuretic belonging to the sulfonamide class of drugs. It is widely used abroad, with the English name Diamox. Start taking it one to two days before entering the mountains, once every 12 hours, 250 mg each time, and stop after 3-4 days on the plateau.
At 7:10 AM, we got on the highway from Fuling in Lishui and headed towards Nanchang along the Longli Line. After driving more than 100 kilometers, we transferred from the Longli Expressway to the Hangzhou-Jinhua-Quzhou Expressway. Along the way, the weather was sunny and bright, making our mood particularly pleasant. We stopped at the Shangrao service area to eat, rest, and refuel. The food at the service area was average, and the facilities were somewhat outdated.
We arrived in Nanchang at 2 PM. Bluesea had already arranged accommodation. Teacher Li's group rested at the hotel, while Bluesea and I went to the Changbei Compass 4S store to buy steel rims (1900 yuan), a spare tire, and check the vehicle. The weather in Nanchang in September was quite hot, and even wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt made us sweat profusely. In the evening, XHK treated us to dinner. Teacher Li, Old Tiao, Tiaobo, Brother Long, Bluesea, Nick, and Coffee Rabbit all attended. Nick planned to go to Tibet next year and came to give us encouragement. The air conditioning in the restaurant was strong, and everyone enjoyed drinking and discussing the specific details of the Tibet trip, filled with anticipation for mysterious Tibet.
After dinner, Brother Long, Coffee Rabbit, Bluesea, Teacher Li, Old Tiao, and Tiaobo signed the self-driving Tibet exemption agreement.
In the evening, I went to the hospital for treatment and intravenous fluids. It is said that catching a cold in the plateau can be fatal, so we must not take it lightly. To be continued...
