Xinhua News Agency, Sydney, March 17th - There are many famous tourist destinations on the east coast of Australia. The picturesque islands attract a large number of tourists who are reluctant to leave. However, due to reports that severe tropical cyclone Ului is approaching the eastern land, bringing strong winds and heavy rains and other disastrous weather conditions, hundreds of tourists had to be evacuated from their holiday destinations.
A spokesperson for the Australian meteorological department said: "Many signs indicate that it (Ului) will move towards the coast of Queensland and then weaken. But it is difficult to predict how strong it will be." Currently, the intensity of Ului is at level 4, just below the highest level 5. When it approaches inland areas, it will pose a huge threat to the local area.
It is reported that Ului may make landfall on the east coast during the weekend, bringing strong winds with speeds of 168 kilometers per hour. This tropical cyclone has already caused strong winds and high waves in the waters near Queensland. It is now slowly moving towards the land and may first threaten towns between Bowen and Gladstone.
In response to the approaching hurricane, about 300 tourists were evacuated by boat from Heron Island and Lady Elliot Island, north of the capital of Queensland, Brisbane, on the 17th. Residents in the coastal areas of Queensland have also been advised to prepare non-perishable food, drinking water, and medicine in advance, in case of emergencies.
