T-shirt Fabric Selection
Commonly used fabrics for making T-shirts and cultural shirts include: 100% cotton, polyester-cotton, Lycra, polyester, nylon, etc.
1. 100% Cotton: A commonly used fabric. Of course, cotton comes in various types, some being better quality due to fine spinning. Its advantages include good moisture absorption and environmental friendliness. The disadvantages are that it easily deforms and wrinkles. General characteristics of 100% cotton fabric: Good hand feel, comfortable and environmentally friendly when worn. The weight generally ranges between 160 grams and 280 grams. Too thin will make it very transparent, too thick will make it stiflingly hot. Generally, choosing between 180-240 grams is best. The count is usually 21-count, but also 32-count. Count refers to the thickness of the cotton fiber yarn; the higher the count, the softer it is. Yarn also divides into common yarn and fine yarn. Common yarn fabric surfaces will be slightly coarser. Fine yarn fabric surfaces are relatively neat and have a soft hand feel.
2. Polyester-Cotton: That is, a mix of cotton and polyester, also a commonly used fabric. Common polyester-cotton blends consist of 65% cotton and 35% polyester. It overcomes the disadvantage of pure cotton easily wrinkling and deforming while maintaining excellent moisture absorption, which is even better than pure cotton, though comfort when wearing is slightly inferior to pure cotton.
3. Nylon-Cotton: A mix of cotton and nylon, having all the advantages of cotton, elasticity, and a silk-like feel, making it comfortable to wear.
4. Lycra-Cotton: A blend of cotton and Lycra, this is an elastic fabric, typically more form-fitting, showing off the figure, snug against the body without feeling overly tight due to its elasticity.
Supplement: During warm autumn days, one can still wear cotton-carded fabric (cotton card), but thicker clothing should be made of pure cotton because cotton-carded fabric is generally thinner. In cold weather, wearing pure polyester can easily cause static electricity, which is quite annoying. Therefore, pure cotton is absolutely the first choice for cold weather. For cotton-polyester blends, they usually differentiate between outer fabric and lining, where polyester linings can easily generate static electricity.
5. Modal:
A new type of eco-friendly material, less common, with much stronger water absorption and sweat-wicking properties than cotton, which is quite good. However, it tends to deform easily, so it's currently rarely used. If blended with polyester or Lycra, it becomes much better.
6. 100% Polyester:
Suitable for wearing during sports, commonly used functional fabric by ADIDAS and NIKE. It can evaporate sweat promptly, avoiding the heavy sensation experienced with pure cotton when sweating, making it suitable for athletic activities. Athletes typically wear polyester rather than cotton.
Due to the continuous rise in cotton yarn prices, the costs of T-shirts and cultural shirts have sharply increased. Currently, the cost of T-shirts has increased by 15%-20% compared to the same period.
