Best and Worst of 2010 Red Carpet
From Sandra Bullock’s disastrous People’s Choice dress to Penelope Cruz’s gorgeous Golden Globes gown, take a look at the best and worst moments from all of the year’s red carpet events.
Best and Worst of Grammy Fashion
Lady Gaga is so consistently extreme that you kind of become desensitized— even an amazing Armani with scary spike accessories seems normal in Gaga's world. On the other hand, Rihanna and Pink were fashion surprises (in a great way!), while Ciara and Katy Perry went overboard with embellishments.
People’s Choice
How bad was Sandra Bullock’s dress at the People’s Choice Awards? Let’s just say it reminded me of something you'd make your frenemies wear if they were bridesmaids in a really tacky wedding party. I mean, it’s tan, it’s weirdly asymmetrical, and it’s sequined (which, even at its best, is a questionable material for sure chicness). The good news is that Taylor Swift looked adorable in a white ruched mini (a look only real 20-year-olds can pull off), and Kate Walsh wore one of my favorite looks of the night: a cool gold sequined vintage mini.
Golden Globes
It’s not just about dresses. You can totally learn a lot about fashion by watching the red carpet. For example, at last night’s Golden Globe Awards, you could have learned: There’s good cleavage and bad cleavage. And Mariah Carey’s falls into the latter category. Just because you're old enough to be a grandma like Glenn Close doesn’t mean you have to look like one. Horizontal stripes only work if you are Penelope Cruz.
SAG Awards
Overall, I loved the SAG Awards red carpet on Saturday night. Blue dresses and one-shouldered looks dominated the red carpet, and while that may seem like a lot of sameness (the fashion kiss of death), there was actually a huge variety even within those two categories. For example, Christina Applegate wore a soft blue dress, while Jenna Fischer pulled off a glittery blue gown. Mariah Carey disappointed in a one-shoulder red dress that must’ve used the world’s strongest double-sided tape to avoid a wardrobe malfunction. And Marion Cotillard aced an incredibly chic one-shoulder short white dress that would leave us mere mortals looking silly.
