Yesterday, foreign media interviewed Steve Papoutsis, the producer of "Dead Space: Extraction" on the Wii platform regarding the shift in perspective from third-person to first-person. The interview content is as follows:
Q: What made the game transition from a third-person to a first-person perspective?
Steve Papoutsis: "The change in perspective was our way of showing that we wanted to create a Nintendo Wii game. Bret Robbins—our current creative director—had previously directed the older version of 'Dead Space.' When discussing the development of a Wii game with him, our goal was always to stand out. We wanted to leverage the rich resources around us, such as comics, animations, games, and many captivating stories to attract players. To align with the Wii's strengths, we decided to switch the game to a first-person perspective to create a new feature. Based on my experience as a Wii player, there’s a strong demand from players for something impactful, which forces game developers to constantly try to create new genres. Therefore, after playing many Wii games, it was natural for us to shift it to a first-person perspective. In summary, the change to the first-person perspective was aimed at giving the game an entirely new identity and leveraging the advantages of the Wii platform."
