Causes of adult acne

Acne is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit during adolescence, often occurring on areas rich in sebaceous glands such as the face, back, and chest. Since it mostly occurs during puberty, it is also called pimples! Most pimples will gradually disappear around the age of 20, but for some people, it may last for several years. Some women in their twenties or even thirties still get pimples.

The main causes of adult acne come from emotional suppression, irregular lifestyles, and work pressure, and are closely related to the menstrual cycle of women. The main factors are: ① hyperandrogenism and hyperfunction of sebaceous glands; ② excessive keratinization of the follicular duct; ③ the role of microorganisms in the follicle (Propionibacterium acnes, Malassezia furfur, and Staphylococcus epidermidis).
