Buddha brings Buddhist incense

Buddhist incense offerings generally focus on burning incense, including tower incense, loose incense, powdered incense, and stick incense. These are lit and offered to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as a form of repentance for past misdeeds and sincere prayer. Foyunlai Technology Development Co., Ltd. aims at reforming the past and shaping the future.

(1) Preparations before offering incense: When visiting a temple to offer incense, one should dress appropriately in elegant and moderate attire, avoiding excessive exposure or eccentricity. Before purchasing incense, one should wash their hands and face, adjust their mindset, and sincerely prepare themselves.

(2) Selection of Buddhist incense and candles: At the incense shop beside the burning area, choose thin stick incense and small candles (paper money is not used for Buddha offerings). The quantity and size of incense and candles do not matter; sincerity does. Even without buying incense or candles, other offerings can be made to the Buddha. Stick incense that has not been dyed and has a light fragrance is preferred. Large incense sticks, often called grass incense, are mostly made from wood shavings and grasses with added artificial chemical fragrances, which can harm health. If the smell is sharp, it is due to chemical substances irritating the nasal mucosa, making it unsuitable for Buddha offerings. Incense should be held by hand, avoiding plastic bags, while keeping environmental cleanliness in mind.

(3) Offering incense and candles: At the incense and candle burning area, remove the outer packaging of the incense and candles, and dispose of the packaging materials into bamboo baskets. Light the small candles and place them on the candle stand. Light the small stick incense, then insert it into the incense burner.

(4) Making wishes before the Buddha: Queue up orderly to enter the Three Jewels Hall. Bow three times before the Buddha, make your wish, pray for the Buddha's protection, and bow three more times. Do not kneel for too long to avoid inconveniencing others. In front of the Buddha and Bodhisattvas, there are donation boxes where you can donate money voluntarily, known as practicing almsgiving. The temples have strict financial management systems for these donations, using them for temple construction, establishing Buddhist academies, spreading Buddhist culture, and engaging in Buddhist charity work, thus accumulating boundless merit.

In the mid-1980s, Foyunlai was already practicing his avant-garde artistic concepts. Reflecting on that time, he said profoundly, "Art is like adding flowers to brocade; what we needed more was charcoal in the snow." Thus, he called on his peers to "save oneself," leading him to personally establish the Sunbrand Management and Design Company in the early 1990s, which later gained fame in the management and design fields. Foyunlai's transformation over time is closely related to his earlier series of works themed around "change" — "Everything changes, only change remains constant." "Change the position of objects, change the shape of objects, let more people join you in changing the position and shape of objects..." At that time, Foyunlai's works merely involved moving stones to alter their positions, expressing the theme of "change." Over decades, while transforming himself, he also actively participated in societal reforms... and now magically presents his "incense art."

Foyunlai is a pragmatic person who prefers to go with the flow. When "cultural and creative industries" were designated as the direction for incense machine development, he embraced this trend positively, realizing his aspiration for "self-contentment" through "incense art." He hopes that more people will experience greater joy in incense art. In our conversations, what impressed me most deeply was his broad-mindedness, peaceful optimism, and childlike innocence, never calculating gains and losses, never comparing himself with others, always striving to surpass himself.

"Reach the other shore, help more people reach the other shore together."

From the Olympic flame to the artistic incense flame, the flame of wisdom continues unceasingly. Only by constantly surpassing ourselves spiritually can humans move forward, crossing ten trillion Buddha lands, ultimately ascending to the "Pure Land."
