Tough Guy Recording Extortion at Hotels: Jiang used a pre-prepared mobile phone recording and two SIM cards to make threatening extortion calls to 26 Hanting hotels across the country. Yesterday, the Yunlong District Court sentenced Jiang to three years in prison for extortion.

Jiang, from Wuxi, between February and August 2009, prepared fake IDs, an Agricultural Bank of China Jinsuitongbao card, mobile SIM cards, and obtained telephone number information for over 80 hotels nationwide in preparation for his plan to extort money from hotels via phone.

On the afternoon of August 22, 2009, from 1 PM to 3 PM, Jiang, while staying at a hostel in Xuzhou, used two SIM cards to make threatening extortion calls to 18 hotels across the country. After connecting the calls, he played a pre-recorded message on his phone. The main content of the recording was: "A bomb has already been placed in your hotel. You must transfer 10,000 yuan to the designated account within the specified time, or the bomb will be detonated."

At around 9 AM on September 3, 2009, Jiang was caught on the spot by the police while continuing to make threatening calls to two hotels in Wuxi from the same hostel. It is reported that Jiang made threatening calls to Hangzhou Hanting Hotel, and many hotels subsequently reported the incident to the local public security authorities.

The tipster Mr. Sun received a reward of 20 yuan.

â–¡Court Verdict

The court found that Jiang used threats and coercion to forcibly extort public and private property, with huge amounts involved, constituting the crime of extortion.

However, since Jiang's actions were not successful, it was considered an attempted crime. Ultimately, the court decided to sentence Jiang to three years in prison.
