A few weeks ago, an article showcasing a work by Mathew Lewis about plotter output was presented. What's notable about the work is that it wasn't generated using a high-level language. Instead, it was developed in assembly language, based on pattern environments. The images appear almost childlike, with symbols drawn by an unsteady hand, depicting human figures as objects, and even animals with disjointed tails. I think the reason I'm revisiting this work is because it serves as a great example showing that generative art doesn't need to be viewed in a deterministic way; it reveals the inner world of the artist.
