The protagonist of the story is an architect who is extremely busy and often works overtime, staying up late into the night. Once, in order to get his niece and nephew to sleep, he told them some little stories to help them fall asleep. An incredible thing then happened - soon, those little stories all came true, one by one manifesting in his life...
For Sgeth Brusnan (played by Adam Sandler), a man just over thirty years old, there have been quite a few things troubling him recently: at the inn where he works, the tasks assigned to him are increasing, making this odd-job work increasingly burdensome; and when he returns home, he has to make great efforts to mediate the small conflicts among his sister Wendy's (played by Courteney Cox) children. Finally finding a good way to keep them from running around the house all day - telling stories - Sgeth realizes that he is not cut out for storytelling. With hardly any literary talent, the stories in his mind are limited, and the few he knows quickly run out due to the children’s insatiable interest.
Seeing that these kids were becoming less willing to hear the same stories repeated, Sgeth had no choice but to start "fabricating" stories. These stories lacked much logic, but for the imaginative children, Sgeth's error-ridden tales perfectly matched their whims. For them, as long as the stories were fun, interesting, and satisfied their imagination, it was enough. What could you expect from children just a few years old?
However, greater troubles awaited Sgeth... Shockingly, he discovered that the stories he made up on a whim actually became reality! One day, he told the children a fabricated tale about a groundhog's amazing adventure before they went to sleep, and the next day, he found that very groundhog right above his head; he said that it would rain candy beans from the sky, and the next day at work, it actually rained colorful candy beans... Sgeth gradually realized that any story he told the children would subsequently happen in real life! With this magical power, Sgeth decided to help himself achieve happiness. He designed various scenarios with Jill (played by Keri Russell), a woman he admired from afar - from ancient times to the future, from movies to games - all in an effort to win Jill's heart. However, he also began to realize that the children's untimely mischief was pushing the entire story towards an uncontrollable edge. Sgeth must write a perfect ending to this story...
