The Legendary Life of Dad in Son's Eyes
In the touching movie "Big Fish", director Tim Burton once again displays his extraordinary imagination, bringing us into the inner world of a father and son. Edward Bloom (played by Albert Finney) is an old man who likes to boast. He often exaggerates his experiences to others, telling them about his youthful adventures (played by Ewan McGregor), wandering around the world starting from a small town in Alabama, then returning home after seeing countless wonders.
Bloom claimed that he had seen giants, heavy snowstorms, witches, and even conjoined singers in hotels... Although everyone admired Bloom, his son Will (played by Billy Crudup) thought his father was vain and exaggerated, and they had been estranged for a long time. Will's mother Sandra (played by Jessica Lange) hoped that the father and son could reconcile and tried to rebuild their relationship, but unexpectedly, Bloom passed away due to cancer.
Only at this point did Will regret his previous attitude towards his father, realizing how little he knew about him. His father's life had become shrouded in mystery due to his grandiose tales. In order to understand his father's true experiences, Will began to reconstruct his father's legendary life based on the stories his father had told him before. In his reconstruction, his young father (played by Ewan McGregor) was a traveling salesman who often left home for distant southern business trips, each trip filled with strange adventures and excitement.
Based on his father's accounts, Will created four different legendary stories, each ending with his father's death. In this process, Will began to experience all people, events, and things from his father's perspective, thus discovering the successes and failures of his father's life...
