The character of Master Roshi (the "Turtle Hermit") is played by Chow Yun-fat, and James Wong, a director of Chinese descent, is responsible for writing and directing.
The plot of the movie version of "Dragon Ball" tells the story of Son Goku setting out on a journey to find Master Roshi and collect the seven Dragon Balls to prevent the Great Demon King Piccolo from ruling the world, following the final instructions of his grandfather, Son Gohan.
Along the way, Goku meets Bulma, and with the help of her Dragon Radar, they find one Dragon Ball after another. When Goku finally finds Master Roshi, they engage in a fierce battle.
Master Roshi, observing the martial arts techniques used by Goku, discovers that he is actually the grandson of Son Gohan, who was once his own disciple. Goku then undergoes rigorous training under Master Roshi. After a long journey, Goku finally approaches the Great Demon King Piccolo.
