Synopsis:

World War II, Germany. Army Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (played by Tom Cruise), once a devoted Nazi soldier fully supporting Adolf Hitler (played by David Bamber), was one of the youngest officers to receive the rank of colonel. During combat in North Africa, he lost his right arm, two fingers on his left hand, and an eye due to injuries sustained in battle. However, after years of witnessing the inhumane massacres committed by the German army across Europe, Stauffenberg began questioning his own beliefs. Like many other officers, he believed that Germany would suffer massive casualties and ultimately lose the war due to Hitler's insistence on adopting disastrous attack strategies.

An increasing number of officers were convinced that the only way to save Germany was to eliminate Hitler and his supporters, instigate a coup, and negotiate a ceasefire with the Allies. In July 1944, with Allied forces having already landed in France, there was some hope that they might be able to stop Stalin's offensive on the "Eastern Front." However, assassinating Hitler proved to be a daunting task because he was surrounded by numerous bodyguards and his movements were unpredictable. Previous assassination attempts had either been abandoned or failed because Hitler, suffering from paranoia about being killed, always changed his plans at the last moment. This stemmed from his delusional belief that an assassination attempt on him was inevitable during his lifetime.

Stauffenberg joined other officers who sought to change Germany and began planning an assassination operation. Among the conspirators were key figures in the German military, such as General Friedrich Olbricht (played by Bill Nighy) and General Erich Fromm (played by Tom Wilkinson). Within the entire assassination organization, only Stauffenberg had regular access to Hitler through normal channels. He fully understood the great risks involved in assassinating Hitler and could not reveal this monumental secret to his wife (played by Carice van Houten)...

On July 20, 1944, Stauffenberg traveled to the Wolf's Lair, the German military headquarters, to attend a meeting with Hitler. Arriving early, he planted a bomb under the conference table. Once the bomb exploded, he would notify the assassination group, and General Ludwig Beck (played by Terence Stamp) would assume leadership of the new government. Each member of the assassination group would take responsibility for taking control of the military. However, what seemed like a perfect plan had a small but critical flaw...
