Introduction:
One afternoon, a magnitude five earthquake hit Tokyo. The people, accustomed to earthquakes, did not panic. A few days later, life in the capital returned to normal, and Yukiyo Shinozaka’s family of three, former members of the Fire Rescue Mobile Unit, were enjoying their daily tranquility. However, this peace was short-lived.
The earthquake caused a sharp rise in seawater temperature, leading to the formation of a massive typhoon at sea, which triggered extreme weather changes. Hailstorms struck Ginza, huge waves surged into Daiba, and the subway station at Shinbashi collapsed with a thunderous roar, plunging Tokyo into an unprecedented natural crisis.
Yukiyo and his daughter were trapped in the collapsed Shinbashi Station, along with three other passengers — an intern doctor who had lost confidence, the president of a small company, and a foreign hostess who had left her homeland. None of the five were willing to accept death quietly, so they took action. Yukiyo used an iron pipe to tap on the walls for help — two taps, five taps, two taps — this was the universal "252" signal used by the Fire Rescue Mobile Unit, indicating survivors still existed.
Could the signal from underground reach the surface? Could the miracle of survival become reality?
Yukiyo's older brother, Shizuma, led the Fire Rescue Mobile Unit to Shinbashi Station for an all-out search and rescue operation. Yukiyo’s wife, Yumi, was extremely anxious but powerless against the forces of nature, unable to locate her husband and daughter trapped underground.
A massive typhoon was heading towards the area. Weather forecasters issued warnings about the typhoon's imminent landfall and recommended the rescue team evacuate the site. As everyone prepared to move, the sound detector picked up sounds coming from underground: “2, 5, 2.” “There are still survivors!” Shizuma's shout shocked everyone on-site. Targeted rescue operations immediately commenced, with only 18 minutes left before the typhoon's eye reached Shinbashi.
Can the rescue operation carried out by the ground personnel at the risk of their lives succeed? Can the miracle of survival become reality?
