Plot Summary:

This is another successful work directed and acted by Jackie Chan, following "A Plan" and "Police Story". It was nominated for the Golden Horse Award for Best Film and Best Director. Although this film is named as a "sequel", the story is independent, only continuing the character of the male protagonist Ma Ru Long and a group of vengeful pirates. The story describes Hong Kong at the end of the Qing Dynasty, where law and order is chaotic and the "Lock Three Rings" gang collaborates with criminals. Ma Ru Long is assigned by his superior to take charge of the Western Ring, launching a cleanup operation in both the black and white areas. On the other hand, the Qing court sends top royal experts to Hong Kong to capture revolutionary party members, while a group of physically strong but simple-minded pirates seek revenge on Ma Ru Long. The three groups conflict with each other, restraining each other, forming an entertaining drama. Compared with Jackie Chan's previous works that purely focus on martial arts action, the plot development of this film is more complex and twisted, with political statements made through historical analogies, reflecting Jackie Chan's growing attention to the depth and connotation of films, which is a welcome progress. Although this sequel does not have Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao from the first part, it features beautiful actresses like Maggie Cheung, Guan Zhilin, and Liu Jia玲 performing vigorously, with highly dangerous action scenes still capturing the audience's attention without pause. Jackie Chan himself continues his usual life-risking performance, with fight choreography being both tense and thrilling. Some segments also fully demonstrate the comedic effect of "situation comedy".
