Plot Summary:
This is a work described by Jet Li himself as "revolutionary." In the film, Jet Li plays the lead character Danny, who has been living a subhuman existence and has never received humane education. At the age of four, Danny was abducted by Bart (Bob Hoskins), a crime boss involved in underground illegal fighting activities. However, Bart tells Danny that he is an orphan abandoned on the street. From then on, Danny is completely isolated from the world, wearing a collar, and kept in a mysterious room below Bart's office like a dog, while undergoing brutal training. He becomes an undisputed champion in the fighting events, earning Bart a great deal of illicit money.
By the time he is thirty, Danny, with the mind of a child, only knows his master Bart, the small room where he is confined, and the bloody, cruel fights. Moreover, Danny has been trained to become a killing machine that will unhesitatingly attack and kill upon his master's command.
An accidental car crash leaves Bart in a deep coma and brings Danny into contact with Sam (Morgan Freeman), drastically changing Danny's world. Sam is a kind elderly piano tuner who knows too many secrets and is being hunted by the mob. He lives with his 18-year-old stepdaughter Victoria (Cary Condon). The two hope to allow Danny to experience the beauty and warmth of humanity, which he has never encountered or has been forbidden to feel. Under the influence of friendship, love, patience, kindness, and especially music, Sam and Victoria try to help Danny break free from the violent education he has endured for so long and gradually rediscover himself. But the crime boss is not willing to let Danny go easily, and they will face a bloody battle...
Can Danny start a normal life? Will he revert to his old habits and continue to be a killing machine? Can music save a person?
