Synopsis:
The film begins with a mysterious one-billion-dollar armed robbery case, orchestrated by the wanderer group led by Wu Jing, causing severe chain casualties. Three police officers from different backgrounds - Xie Tingfeng, Fang Zuming, and Yu Wenle - are intricately connected to the case. They join forces to track down the culprits but soon realize that there's a mastermind behind the scenes. Their adversaries possess extraordinary martial arts skills, making it difficult for them to triumph even when giving their all.
Behind-the-scenes production:
Benny Chan is known for his expertise in filming explosive scenes, but this time he focused on martial arts. "Male Colors" discards the computer technology often used in recent police-crime films and returns to traditional, visceral fight scenes. Each actor engaged in personal combat, and Chan ordered all the main actors to avoid using stunt doubles, opting instead for real kung fu. The cast underwent intensive training earlier, with Xie Tingfeng taking classes with former members of the Hong Kong gymnastics team to perfect his tumbling moves. Fang Zuming frequently played basketball to build stamina, and the group would gather together for closed-door special training sessions.
Xie Tingfeng's daring performance:
Xie Tingfeng stated that "Male Colors" was the most life-risking role of his acting career. "In the past, I've jumped off conference centers and slid down from buildings over a hundred meters high, but compared to this, those don't count for much. The action scenes in 'Male Colors' were extremely challenging." He also revealed that he rarely uses stunt doubles while filming, resulting in frequent injuries during action sequences. This led to him being blacklisted by local Hong Kong insurance companies. "Both myself and Jackie Chan cannot find any insurance company in Hong Kong willing to cover us, so the production team had to purchase a high-value insurance policy worth 60 million yuan in the United States."
Fun Facts:
- Due to the dangerous stunts performed by Xie Tingfeng in the movie, local Hong Kong insurance companies refused to insure him, leading the production team to travel to the U.S. to secure an insurance policy worth 60 million yuan.
- Xie Tingfeng admires Wu Jing's accuracy in delivering punches, stating, "It's easy to get hit, but hitting accurately is hard. Wu Jing can knock me out with just one punch, leaving my face swollen immediately. However, when I try to hit him back, it's not as effective."
