Film Synopsis:
If you ask Cody Maverick who "Big Z" is, then you've come to the right penguin. Cody is a young rockhopper penguin, and "Big Z" is his idol, a legendary surfer. However, in the last surf competition 10 years ago, he disappeared in the waves and never came back, and everyone thought he was dead. It was during that competition that Cody first saw "Big Z" and was immediately captivated by the legendary surfer's style, falling madly in love with the sport of surfing.
Don't underestimate Cody; for 10 years, he has been the most outstanding surfer in his hometown town located in Antarctica - even though he is the only one who surfs there. Cody doesn't want to work at the fish factory like other penguins in town, leading an uneventful life. However, his mother Edna and brother Glen can't understand him and don't know why Cody is so different from other penguins. To gain the same respect and honor as "Big Z," Cody sets out with a film crew to document his journey, hitching a ride on Mitch Ebramowitz's whale, a surf agent, to Pengu Island, home to the world's best surf beaches, where the 10th annual "Big Z" Memorial Surf Competition is about to take place. There, he meets another surfer, Chick Jenk from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, a somewhat dimwitted chicken who quickly becomes good friends with Cody.
Not long after arriving on the island, Cody finds himself constantly following the figure of Lani Aliikai, the island's lifeguard—turns out, he's fallen in love. After an awkward introduction and an even more awkward date invitation, feeling extremely embarrassed, Cody runs towards the beach to hide his discomfort, where he encounters Taki Evans, the winner of the previous nine "Big Z" Cups. As Taki is practicing by using a monument built for "Big Z" as a target, this behavior angers Cody. In the tense moment between them, Reggie steps in and suggests they settle it with a small surf contest... Needless to say, within minutes, Cody is flipped into the water, losing the contest in an even more humiliating way.
Lifeguard Lani rescues Cody and takes him to her friend Geek's house—Cody discovers a stunning fact: Geek is actually his idol "Big Z." Why is he still alive? And why is he living here under a pseudonym? Cody's head fills with questions, but what he needs to face most urgently now is how to win the surfing championship in the big competition. Can "Big Z" help him?
