Plot:

As the saying goes, a hero emerges in turbulent times. Zhang Wenxiang (played by David Chiang), Huang Zong (played by Kuan-Tai Chen) and Huang's wife (played by Lily Cheng) are rough-and-tumble folk who become acquainted with Ma Xinyi (played by Ti Lung) through combat, eventually forming a brotherhood. The three gain fame on the battlefield, and Ma is bestowed with the rank of Viceroy of Liangjiang. Ma has long harbored feelings for Huang's wife, so he secretly murders Huang. Upon learning the truth, Zhang vows to avenge his sworn brother and plans to assassinate Ma at the training ground... Director Cheh Chang's magnum opus, perfectly combined with the action guidance of legendary kung fu master Lau Kar-leung. Ti Lung delivers an impressive performance as the complex, morally ambiguous Ma Xinyi, leaving a lasting impression!

Adapted from one of the four great strange cases of the Qing Dynasty, the story depicts how Huang Zong, Ma Xinyi, and Zhang Wenxiang were originally sworn brothers as close as blood relatives. However, after Ma ascends to the position of Viceroy of Liangjiang, he resorts to any means necessary to achieve his goals, killing Huang Zong and taking possession of his wife Milan. Upon learning of this, Zhang, filled with righteous indignation, assassinates the man-faced beast Ma.
