Introduction:
Three strangers meet on a journey, each carrying their own "unspeakable secrets." The main character TK (Michael Pena) is an American soldier stationed in Iraq who was injured during a routine patrol and received treatment at the base. After recovering, TK was granted a month's leave. This injury affected TK's sexual function, so he decided to use this time to go home and visit his fiancée, but he could not bear to tell her the truth about his injury. Another protagonist, soldier Keri (Rachel McAdams), is heading to her boyfriend's home in Las Vegas, but she is not only bringing his guitar but also the news of his death. Both TK and Keri have 30 days of leave. Their fellow traveler Fred Cheever (Tim Robbins) is a middle-aged soldier from St. Louis who is returning home due to a back injury, hoping to reunite with his wife soon.
When all three are stranded in New York while transferring flights, New York enters a period of control, and all flights out of New York are canceled. With the airport grounded, Cheever plans to rent a car to drive home, and then TK and Keri will fly back to St. Louis from Cheever's house. However, all the rental cars have already been rented out by others. The only option seems to be to hitch a ride home with another stranger who is also stuck without options. Thus, these three strangers, each carrying their hidden pain, set off on the same road, seeking solace for their souls and relief from their suffering. The journey is long, and the familiar warm home they once knew seems increasingly strange and distant...
