Besides being able to see souls, Kurosaki Ichigo is an otherwise ordinary high school student. One day, he meets a girl and his life changes dramatically. The girl, who calls herself a Soul Reaper, is Rukia Kuchiki. Chasing after a malicious spirit known as Hollow, she suddenly appears in front of Ichigo. Due to Ichigo's high spiritual energy, he becomes a target for the Hollow. With Rukia severely injured and unable to defeat the Hollow, she has no choice but to transfer her Soul Reaper powers to Ichigo.
