The lack of knowledge about printing has hindered the development of many graphic designers. Due to their ignorance, many designers assume that what they see on their computer screens is exactly how their designs will look like, which is dangerous because there are significant differences between what appears on screen and the actual printed output due to technical reasons. Without familiarity with the characteristics and limitations of printing, many designers unknowingly create trouble and obstacles for the printing process, which is foolish. Graphic designers need to understand various aspects of printing, such as the performance of different brands of printing machines, the capabilities of the same model in different specifications, the properties of different brands of ink, the characteristics of four-color and spot color inks, the performance of various brands, specifications, and types of paper, special processes, post-printing processing, and binding, among others. All these factors are issues that designers must consider when designing for their clients.
