Analysis firm iSuppli has released an official analysis report on the manufacturing cost of the iPhone 3G after a detailed teardown analysis. They estimate that the total cost of an 8GB iPhone 3G, including parts and manufacturing, is $174.33, which is $50 less than the previous generation product.
