Recently, Apple ordered up to 50 million 8Gb NAND flash chips from Samsung Electronics for its iPhone and iPod products. This move can maintain the current low price on the one hand, and artificially create supply problems for competitors on the other.
Just last month, Apple had already ordered 25 million 8Gb NAND flash chips from Samsung. Not long after, it doubled the order quantity, reaching 75 million in less than a month. It's no wonder that Samsung Electronics has notified its downstream customers that it will reduce supplies to them starting this month.
